About Dr. Minarik

Dr. Minarik completed his training in both naturopathic and Chinese medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine (formerly NCNM), followed by a 2 year residency.  He developed his specialty around musculoskeletal complaints related to chronic pain, sports or athletic injuries, and joint conditions. His patients range from individuals with recent injuries associated with routine exercise, to more chronic degenerative conditions (ie arthritis) or complex cases involving multiple spinal levels or extremities (ie motor vehicle accidents).  He also works with professional athletes, including elite acrobats and Olympic runners.  When chronic pain or injury is the main concern, he frequently uses a mix of regenerative injection therapies (prolotherapy, PRP, prolozone), acupuncture, dry needling, myofascial release, kinesiotaping, and/or ultrasound-guided therapy to encourage a full healing response.

Dr Minarik had a love for many sports growing up, a mind for science and math, and a mother devoted to nutrition. Unsure of how these different aspects would be of influence, he attended the University of Washington and studied pre-med, while working part time in a lab at a biotech firm.  It was during this time he realized a disconnect with standard approaches to medicine and health.  While medications could be undoubtedly effective and life saving, drug research was extremely contradictory at times, while the conventional model too often left out or ignored therapies and lifestyle aspects that made equal, if not more, of an impact on disease and dysfunction.

His passions for sports and medicine ultimately culminated with his training as a naturopathic physician.  Over his 10+ years in practice he has developed a true appreciation for all areas of medicine, including surgery, constantly amazed at how the human body can recover, even under dire circumstances.  He is most in awe, however, of how the body can be stimulated to heal on its own, getting true gratification when he helps patients return to doing what they love, ideally pain and injury free.

Dr. Minarik lives in Portland, relishing every moment as a happy father to 2 young daughters.  When not playing at parks or working on home improvement projects, you can find him out running, mountain biking, playing tennis, rock climbing, kiteboarding, snowboarding, or paddle boarding.  He is also a fervent soccer fan - go Timbers!
